Pre-Teens
Pre-Teens (Ages 9–12)
Strengthening Confidence, Independence & Skills for the Next Stage of Life
The pre-teen years are a time of rapid change—socially, emotionally and academically. Children aged 9 to 12 are beginning to navigate more complex school expectations, growing responsibilities at home, expanding friendships and increasing independence. This phase lays the groundwork for adolescence, and the right support can make a meaningful difference to a young person’s confidence and wellbeing.
At Kids Therapy Station, we provide occupational therapy designed specifically for pre-teens. Our mobile service allows us to work with children in the places they feel safest and most supported—their home or school. By meeting pre-teens in their everyday environments, therapy becomes practical, relevant and easier to apply in real life.
Why Occupational Therapy Matters for Pre-Teens
As children move toward adolescence, the demands placed on them increase significantly. Executive functioning, emotional regulation, classroom participation and self-care all become more complex. Many pre-teens need help developing the skills to stay organised, manage emotions, build healthy friendships and handle rising academic expectations.
Occupational therapy helps pre-teens:
- Strengthen self-confidence and self-identity
- Build resilience and problem-solving skills
- Manage sensory sensitivities and emotional responses
- Improve organisational skills and executive functioning
- Become more independent in personal and school routines
- Feel more capable in both social and academic environments
By supporting pre-teens early, we help them enter their teenage years feeling prepared, confident and capable.
